Melanie Bowles is a textile designer who specialises in designing creative systems of participatory design for printed textiles combining traditional and digital techniques. She collaborates with individuals and companies to create print identities which encourage systems of sustainable design for all to enjoy. Her clients include the V&A Museum, Crafts Council, VF Corporations, Computer Arts, Laurence King publishing, Contrado Imaging & Fespa Digital. Melanie is the Co-director of The People’s Print with Dr Emma Neuberg a creative enterprise based at Makerversity, Somerset House.
She is the principal author of the best selling publication Digital Textile Design, publisher Laurence King 2009 and recent publication Print, Make, Wear – Creative projects for digital textile design, publisher Laurence King 2015.
Melanie lectures on democratic design systems using Digital Textile Print technology and its role in the DIY New Maker Movement. Senior lecturer at Chelsea College of Art and Design and researcher at TED Textile Environmental design and TFRC Textile Future Research Center at Central St Martins.
